Saturday Night at the Movies 3/28/15!

Who cares what picture we see?

Well, I do, frankly, but before we get to the business at hand - a quick announcement:

THIS IS THE 950TH POST AT LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!!

Back over at the actual post - I do indeed care what picture we see - and considering I'm at this very moment attending a horror movie convention with nearly the entire cast - this must be the choice for tonight:

One of my very favorite horror movies from the 80's - a smart, funny, and scary movie about young horror movie fan Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) discovering his handsome and charming next door neighbor Jerry Dandridge (Chris Sarandon) is really a vampire!

Charley can't get his girlfriend Amy (Amanda Bearse) or the school weirdo "Evil" Ed Thompson (Stephen Geoffreys) to believe him, so he manages to enlist vampire movie actor turned TV horror host Peter Vincent (the late great Roddy McDowall) to help him destroy the bloodsucker. But that's not going to be easy - Jerry's smart, and he has help - the sinister Billy Cole (Jonathan Stark) - who can get around in the daylight.

I have been a huge fan of this movie since seeing it in the theater - and it holds a place of honor in the video vault. We could be checking it out any night but tonight - because I'm at the show - but any other night you're not afraid to venture out after dark - come watch it with me!

Until next post, you Can Poke Me With A Wooden Stake, Cause I Am Outta Here!

  3. Congrats on the 950th post - you are a machine! One with a loving, tender touch... but you don't mess around! Like most people here, I absolutely love this film, and no argument from me on it being one of the finest from the decade. A near perfect mix of horror and comedy, with some great performances. I know a few people who HATED Evil Ed, but I thought he was great fun. It has some excellent effects from Steve Johnson, among others.I've never actually seen the sequel, but that's mainly due to it never getting a digital release over here, and I seldom recall ever seeing it on the video shelf back in the day. Hopefully it gets a widescreen/HD treatment soon.

    1. Thanks for the congrats! I didn't care much for the sequel - which I only got to see on VHS as the theatrical release was hampered by the murder of studio exec Lyle Menendez by his sons. I loved seeing Ragsdale and McDowall again, but the movie was underwhelming - another vampire? I do want to see it again though. I am still resisting watching the remake.

    2. Actually, now that you mention it; would it have been more interesting if they had a different classic monster in the sequel? They had some interesting ideas on the vampire in the first... maybe they could have done something else with Frankenstein's monster, or a werewolf... or would that have been too much hard work for the studio...
