Today, in order to prepare the proper sendoff for tomorrow, I'm relinquishing command. And there's only one choice to take over, since it can now be revealed...
Y is for You!
Yes, this is going to be YOUR post - I need YOU to help me out with this one! I'm going to post five pop culture questions. They can be answered in a few words - or they can be the launching point for a new 30,000 word essay - as Tommy Lee Jones told Harrison Ford: "I don't care!" - just please copy the questions into the comments and answer them for me.
The more answers that appear, the better this post will be. So please take a couple of minutes and comment this one!
Here are the questions:
1.) Name a Guilty Pleasure movie you love that no one else does.
2.) Name a TV show cancelled too early, or cancelled too late.
3.) Name a song that makes you turn it up, or one that makes you turn it off.
4.) Name a book everyone should read.
5.) What is the weirdest Pop Culture moment you ever saw?
And now it's all up to YOU! Til tomorrow and the finale, YOU Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!
And I will get the ball rolling!
ReplyDelete1.) Name a Guilty Pleasure movie you love that no one else does. Mannequin 2: On the Move
2.) Name a TV show cancelled too early, or cancelled too late. Cancelled too early: Journeyman
3.) Name a song that makes you turn it up, or one that makes you turn it off. Turn it up: Come Go with Me by the Del Vikings
4.) Name a book everyone should read. The Cider House Rules by John Irving
5.) What is the weirdest Pop Culture moment you ever saw? I was watching Bionic Ever After? - the last of the reunion movies for Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers. I am a fan, so I was watching for that reason - but I had a second reason this time - my makeup artist pals had made the bionic arm seen in surgery for this TV flick. But I digress, even in comments. Anyway, in the movie the bad guys seize an American embassy in one of those foreign island countries only seen on shows like this. Everyone in the embassy is shunted into the basement. Steve Austin crashes in on a rescue mission - and one of the people hanging out in the embassy is none other than Dave Thomas - founder of the Wendy's fast food chain (?!?) Steve asks him "How are you, Dave?" to which Dave gives his trademark nod and says "I'm fine Steve." which means they know each other (!?!?!)A truly bizarre moment in an otherwise standard issue TV reunion movie.
1.) Name a Guilty Pleasure movie you love that no one else does. Race with the Devil (1975) with Peter Fonda. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat and the ending was terrifying. Love it!
ReplyDelete2.) Name a TV show cancelled too early, or cancelled too late. Cancelled too late: Seinfeld. The early seasons were the funniest. After season 7 it was getting a little weird. The characters were aging and the situations were bizarre.
3.) Name a song that makes you turn it up, or one that makes you turn it off. Turn it up: Suzie Q by Creedence Clearwater Revival. I like the cool, bluesy sound of CCR. Great band.
4.) Name a book everyone should read. This is a tough one because there are so many great books that I love. Okay, I'll narrow it down to three: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis; Cujo by Stephen King; and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
5.) What is the weirdest Pop Culture moment you ever saw? I don't know if it's weird but I loved it: Who shot J.R.?
1.) Name a Guilty Pleasure movie you love that no one else does. - bring it on
ReplyDelete2.) Name a TV show cancelled too early, or cancelled too late... cancelled too late - the bachlor, big brother - they're still on right?
3.) Name a song that makes you turn it up, or one that makes you turn it off. - turn it up - daughter by pearl jam
4.) Name a book everyone should read. tough one because there are so many great books that I love.... I will go with Yertle the Turtle if only picking one

1.) Name a Guilty Pleasure movie you love that no one else does.
ReplyDeleteHer Alibi. I'm still a big fan of Tom Selleck, and back in the day, Paulina Porizkova made my heart beat fast. So when I found out they were starring together in a comedy-thriller about a mystery writer who takes in a mysterious woman, I was really excited.
Alas, they have the chemistry of...something that has no chemistry. Selleck is a hoot! And Paulina...looks very nice on film.
I still have a place in my heart--and my library--for this film.
2.) Name a TV show cancelled too early, or cancelled too late.
Mad About You. Started out awesome. Lost its way. Died a season or two too late.
3.) Name a song that makes you turn it up, or one that makes you turn it off.
Here's one I crank: Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, in Road to Bali, singing "Hoot Mon!"
I make people crazy with this song. Which adds to my enjoyment, naturally.
4.) Name a book everyone should read.
Each Little Bird That Sings, by Deborah Wiles. It's a book for kids. And it's lovely.
5.) What is the weirdest Pop Culture moment you ever saw?
Excellent question. For me, this one is easy: Bing Crosby and David Bowie, side-by-side, 1977, singing Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy.
This takes the notion of a generation gap to Continental Divide proportions.
And yet, it works. So beautiful, but soooo strange.
But your #5 has to place second. Hilarious...but soooo strange.
I've had a blast reading your letter blogs, the comments, and your comments on mine. Thanks for doing the A-Z with me!
Best,
Joe
