A-Z Challenge 2012: A is for A-Z 2011!

And we're off! After the amazingly wonderful and productive month I had last year - posting 26 times and discovering a world of new blogs and terrific new friends, of course I wouldn't miss the April 2012 A-Z Blogging Challenge!

My thanks to the A-Z Team Members for their work getting this thing going and spreading the word!

I am very proud of the 26 posts I put up during April 2011. So, to kick off this new month long run -

A is for A-Z 2011!

Yes, just like a pennypinching TV producer, I am running a "clip show." But I'm doing it for the season premiere instead of episode 20...and of course if you're new to LGOOH I hope there's some cool stuff to root around in back in those posts...

April 2011 A-Z Blogging Challenge

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - A is for the Asylum!

Wherein our old pal Buddha Man reviews The Asylum's production of Mega Piranha. It's Tiffany and Greg Brady vs toothy predators!

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - B is for Bond!

Saturday Night at the Movies - a regular department here at LGOOH featuring a movie trailer and poster from my personal video vault - brings us Bond. James Bond, in The Living Daylights.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - C is for Crazy Movie Posters!

Maniacal Movie Poster Monday - another regular department here - always features three wonderful old movie posters for perusal. Here, all three titles begin with the same letter, and there are no flies on you if you guessed it's C!

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - D is for Doc Martin!

Wherein I surprised everyone who knew me by not going with D is for Doc Savage or D is for Doctor Who - but instead, a wonderful British comedy/drama about a socially inept but brilliant surgeon who returns to his hometown as a general practitioner because he develops a phobia about the sight of blood. The American series House is a buzzardization of this show, and you should really see how cool the original is.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - E is for Eleanor!

Buddha Man reviews the original 1974 Gone in 60 Seconds, with special emphasis put on its star car, a 1973 Ford Mustang named Eleanor.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - F is for The Falling!

A full on Let's Get Out of Here! review of the 1987 sci-fi/horror/comedy mashup The Falling, aka Alien Predators (but not Alien vs Predator, as that was still a long ways off.)

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - G is for Gary Busey!

Around here, our Blog Good Luck Charm is none other than Gary Busey...here's a quick review of one of his wacko movies, and a video clip from I'm With Busey for good measure!

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - H is for The Howling!

Saturday Night at the Movies presents The Howling.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - I is for Incredible Movie Posters!

Maniacal Movie Poster Monday and posters for movies with the word Incredible in them.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - J is for Jaws!

A recurring department in the blog is The Video Vault of Mora Tau - video clips of whatever weird subjects strike my fancy - here we find a few snippets relating to Steven Spielberg's classic thriller.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - K is for Kirk!

The next recurring department to make an appearance during A-Z 2011 was Bookworm's Book Club, in which the titular Batman villain takes the reader into the pages for a jaunt through literature. This one reviews a Classic Era Star Trek novel called Cloak.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - L is for Lingerie!

A full LGOOH! review of The Notorious Bettie Page.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - M is for M!

This post gives a quick and concise history of James Bond's boss, from the pages of Ian Fleming's novels across all the movies and all the way through the 007 video games!

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - N is for Not Another Teen Movie!

Saturday Night at the Movies presents Not Another Teen Movie.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - O is for Onomatopoeia!

Maniacal Movie Poster Monday offers movie posters with titles that are sound effects.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - P is for Police Academy!

My single longest post in the A-Z 2011 Challenge (and possibly the longest one in the entire 1300 participating blogs) is an indepth examination of the worst reviewed movie series in history. I dare you to check this one out, and comment on it. In fact, I double dare you!

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - Q is for Q!

After our showcase for 007's boss, we couldn't miss hitting James Bond's favorite gadget master for another retrospective, this one highlighting the great Desmond Llewelyn in clips from The Video Vault of Mora Tau.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - R is for Random Stew!

The final recurring LGOOH department to rear its head during A-Z 2011 was Random Stew - each time a compendium of weird pop culture tidbits dredged up from the depths of my memory. This edition features (among other things) Roger Moore hawking computers and a Hawkman, er, hawking Hostess snack cakes. Plus, a Blue Meanie stops by!

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - S is for Scre4m!

A full LGOOH review of the fourth movie in the Scream franchise.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - T is for Tourist Trap!

Saturday Night at the Movies: Tourist Trap.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - U is for Untamed Movie Posters!

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - V is for Vipers!

A big sprawling space saga-style review of the 1978 theatrical feature Battlestar Galactica - with lots of pictures and stuff.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - W is for Weng Weng!

A showcase for the Filipino actor Weng Weng - 2 feet 9 inches of acting power - and here being reviewed in the movie For Y'ur Height Only.

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - X is for Xuxa!

Spotlight on the cutest, most talented, and yes, sexiest Brazilian kids' show host EVER!

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - Y is for You!

The penultimate post puts the reader in charge - with the assignment to answer 5 pop culture questions in the comments section. Counting mine, there are currently five comments. As the only post still under construction, please do feel free to drop by this one and add your two cents!

The April 2011 A - Z Blogging Challenge - Z is for Zapped!

The final post in A-Z 2011 is a Saturday Night at the Movies post with the 1982 teen comedy Zapped! as its subject. But as the final post, there are lots of extras like photos and video clips.

All right, there they are! A handy resource for what I hope are 26 fun posts taking the length and width of the world of wacky pop culture. Rest assured that starting with tomorrow's post the rest of this 2012 A-Z Blogging Challenge will be all new...for the most part, anyway...

Until then, "B" good, and you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

  5. What a smashing idea! You realize, of course, that this year's A/Z (A/Z: The Sequel), will need bigger explosions! More guest-stars! Shocking plot twists!

I have my ticket, a large soda, and fresh popcorn. Ready for the show...

    1. Joe - I'm thrilled to see you - love your theme for this year! I don't know if this year's A-Z will top last year - might hit a sophomore slump - but let's hope not...and let's get out of here!

  7. Way to go, Craig! You are a man of your word. Very happy to see you start with such a bang.

It's a shame I'm not going to be trading cinema knowledge with you during this Challenge, as last year was truly epic. But I'll be making routine visits along the way. Best of luck, pal!
