Saturday Night at the Movies 8/8/14!

Who cares what picture we see?

I go to bed believing Jet Li does, so in honor of his newest film coming out in six days, let's go with...

I love team ups and crossovers, so you know I loved this big noisy action movie that featured a gaggle of action stars both past and current. Here is my full review for those so inclined.

And you know if we're celebrating number three's impending bow in theaters this is really going to be a...

Saturday Night at the Movies Double Feature!

A quick intermission, then it's on to feature #2:

The sequel is bigger, louder, and funnier - with scads of in-jokes flying all over the place. I thoroughly enjoyed this one too - with even more added action star goodness in the form of Norris and villain Van Damme.

Both movies are on Blu-Ray in the video vault - and we can go theatrical or extended cut on part 1 - two big action movies ready to spin any time - even this very evening - in preparation for The Expendables 3 in theaters on August 15th! Woohoo!

Until next post, you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

  1. I hated the first one so much, I still refuse to watch the second one, even though it has more Arnie in it. Though, I would watch the leaked third version, just to - Ha! Ha! - laugh at Sly ;-)))

  3. I still haven't watched these but plan to start with the 3rd movie. I figured the first was a fluke bu t these just keep getting bigger.

    1. I don't know if you can get together a cast like the first film's and call its success a fluke...and I'm thinking that with a series that seems to get bigger with each movie starting with the third will leave you underwhelmed as you work your way back...still - I hope you enjoy them, Maurice!

  4. I gotta say, I wasn't a big fan of the first film. Odd, as I seem to be the perfect target audience for it. I think it just felt a bit too contrived in parts (and not just in the sense that all these actors got together to make this film), and it bugged me that they didn't kill off a certain character (no spoilers, but you probably know who I mean). Still, I'm willing to watch the second film at some point. Maybe I'll enjoy em at some point in the future. Saying that, I dug the hell out of Stallone and Walter Hill's Bullet to the Head, I thought it was great fun! I seem t have enjoyed Arnie's big screen return much less though...

    1. That's a head scratcher - as I have enjoyed all three of them. I actually really liked that the character you mention had a completely different arc than the one utilized a thousand times in a thousand different movies. Be aware, after the fairly serious first film - the second is jammed with comedy bit and in-jokes. The third film swings back to more serious, with some choice comic relief along the way. Sadly, I guess #3 tanked over the weekend, so the franchise may have breathed its last before anyone in the cast did in real life....
