A-Z Challenge 2012: G is for Get Crazy!

We come to the end of the first week of the April 2012 A-Z Blogging Challenge, and I feel like it might be time to cut loose. You know, go a little bonkers...as we visit another regular department here at LGOOH:
Saturday Night at the Movies 4/7/12!

Who cares what picture we see?

I dream about Anna Bjorn caring, so we're going with this one for that reason, and for another:

G is for Get Crazy!

I love this anarchic comedy that serves as director Allan Arkush's cinematic Valentine to his days working at the Fillmore East rock palace. It has an incredible cast, with so many Corman company regulars you'll think you're watching something from the heyday of New World Pictures - check out this cast list:

Malcolm McDowell  (A Clockwork Orange)
Allen Goorwitz  (Mother Jugs & Speed)
Daniel Stern  (Home Alone)
Gail Edwards  (TV's It's A Living)
Miles Chapin  (Pandemonium)
Ed Begley Jr.  (Pineapple Express)
Stacey Nelkin  (Halloween III: Season of the Witch)
Bill Henderson  (Clue)
Lou Reed  (singer - Take a Walk on the Wild Side)
Howard Kaylan  (singer - The Turtles)
Lori Eastside  (Fear City)
Lee Ving  (Black Moon Rising and lead singer - Fear)
John Densmore  (performer - The Doors)
Anna Bjorn  (More American Graffiti)
Robert Picardo  (TV's The Wonder Years and Star Trek: Voyager)
Bobby Sherman  (Teen idol of the 60's)
Fabian Forte  (Teen idol of the 60's)
Franklyn Ajaye  (Convoy)
Dan Frischman  (TV's Head of the Class)
Mary Woronov  (Rock n Roll High School)
Paul Bartel  (Rock n Roll High School)
Jackie Joseph  (Little Shop of Horrors '60)
Dick Miller  (Nearly every Roger Corman movie from the 50's through the 80's)

It is a completely off the wall and surreal live action cartoon - and I highly recommend seeing it - and you can do that with me - even tonight - because I have this on VHS (the only format legally available - as I'll bet music rights holds up a DVD release)

So, come Get Crazy with me - even tonight, if you feel like coming by!

"H"ya comin' back Monday? I sure hope you are - and until then, you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

    1. It really is. It seems like nearly every speaking part is a familiar face!

  2. Never heard of "Get Crazy" but omg, the trailer is just hilarious ("Evening Officer!") and the cast is just impressive!
Wiki tells me that it was a huge box office flop and never got released on DVD which is a shame - but hey, the full movie is on YT!!

    1. I love this movie a LOT. It is very much in the vein of Arkush's Rock n Roll High School, only even a little wilder! I know it doesn't qualify for the Horror Movie Diary, but I'd love to read your review if you watch it!

  3. Wow! That clip is wild! Bobby Sherman? Are you kidding? I didn't even know he had a been in a movie. I just remember him from "Here Come the Brides." But he was my generation's teen heart throb on the cover of Teen and Tiger Beat. My friends put his pictures on their bedroom walls. I was weird. I liked Gene Kelly even though he was old enough to be my grandpa.

    1. Yeah, he and Fabian are wonderful as Mark and Marv, the yes-men flunkies to bad guy Colin Beverly (Ed Begley, Jr.) It is a silly silly movie, and talking about it makes me want to watch it again right now!

  6. I don't even know how to respond to that trailer. That's hilarious! And I do love me some Alex de Large. I might have to check this out...but it might be a non-sober movie.

    1. It's a hell of a movie that should be better known than it is. Malcolm is basically playing Mick Jagger, with John Densmore as Keith Richards. And while I haven't watched it in an altered state, I can only imagine that it would only add another layer of baddassitry to the whole thing! Cheers!

    1. I hope you find it there - but it's not on DVD, so Instant is the only possibility, and I don't think they have it. If you find it there though, please come back and let us know! Thanks for stopping by!

  8. Wow, this is one helluva a cool cast. Robert Picardo...ah my fave psychotic werewolf. ;) Too bad I will probably never get the chance to see this.

  10. There's all kinds o' crazy on Netflix. But if you want to Get Crazy, you'll have to do it elsewhere. Didn't find it among their notoriously limited offerings...

    1. Yeah, I didn't think it would be there - meaning an old VHS is still the only way to see it!
