A-Z Challenge 2012: O is for Olivers!

Well, after yesterday's poster post, let's drop in another recurring department here at LGOOH  - it's a department so perfectly named I won't even need to explain it. TenList. See? O, and

O is for Olivers!

TenList Presents: Ollie Ollie Oxen Free!

FYI - this is the order they came to me...

1. Oliver Queen  (DC comics character, secret identity of Green Arrow)

2. Oliver Wendell Douglas  (Lawyer-turned-farmer, the great Eddie Albert on TV's Green Acres)

3. Oliver Reed (one of my favorite actors of all time - bigger-than-life, boozy, brilliant)

4. Cousin Oliver (Brady Bunch sinking "cute kid" brought in at eleventh hour - Robbie Rist)

5. Oliver Hardy (one half of one of my favorite comedy duos of all time. Stan Laurel is the other half.)

6. Kukla Fran & Ollie (A children's show-hosting trio from way back in the day - Ollie was a snake...I think...)

7. Edna May Oliver (Incomparable character actress from the 1920's and 1930's - she and James Gleason were amazing in the Miss Withers/Inspector Piper mysteries.)

8. Oliver Stone  (Polarizing political director - and a filmmaker of some great thrillers and dramas.)

9. Oliver!  (A big budget Hollywood musical version of Charles Dickens's Oliver Twist.)

10. Oliver Platt  (Terrific character actor I've seen precious little of the last couple of years.)

I'm so excited about tomorrow's post I could just P! Hope you'll come back to check it out - and until then, you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

    1. You know, he did cross my mind - and Love Story and its late-in-coming sequel were both a big deal on the Pop Culture landscape - but in the end, Mr. Barrett made it to #11. What did you end up going with for a name?

  2. Fabulous! Where do I begin to tell you how awesome this post is? Okay, my first theatrical performance on the stage was in Oliver! the musical. I played Old Sally and was also in the chorus as a townsperson and a barmaid. It was an amazing experience.

Cousin Oliver is a miniature John Denver. So cute. But the show was grasping at straws by this time.

Not familiar with Oliver Queen, but I admire all your other Olivers! Especially Oliver Douglas, Oliver Stone and Oliver Platt (loved him in Flatliners and Frost Nixon! Great movies!)

I agree with Lynn -- Oliver Barrett III is missing in action. I named my daughter after Jennifer!

    1. That is so very cool! I saw a college theater production of it a lot of years ago - don't really remember all that much about it!

Cousin Oliver. Wow. Someday I'll have to tell the story of how I creeped Robbie Rist out one day...

Always a pleasure to see you Ms. K!

    1. I'm so glad you did, Kerrie! I am slammed getting these posts together - but I'm following and will come see GLC when I have a spare moment! Cheers!

  4. I'm partial to Dickens's Oliver myself.

  5. Ollie of Kukla Fran and fame is a dragon.

Oliver Platt is on the lousy show The Big C. Miss it every chance you get...

    1. Oh thank goodness you came by, Count DeV! I only have vague memories of the tail end (pun intended) of K, F, & O's run on CBS late on Saturday mornings when they hosted that Children's Film Festival - so I'd forgotten Mr. Oliver's dragonhood.

No wonder I haven't seen Platty then! I have an Olympic gold medal in Big C Avoiding!

  6. This is a whole passel of Olivers indeed, and so many good ones, I can't pick a favorite (though Douglas and Platt probably top my list).

I don't bump into many Olivers these days--which is, in part, why I the chose the name for a protagonist in one of my works in progress. Now I know he's in great company!

    Excellent post!

  7. Loads of cool Olivers in this post, but I miss my favorite Oliver:
Oliver Onions, super-cheesy Italo-Pop duo that delivered the title songs for almost every Bud Spencer / Terence Hill flick :)

    1. WOW! I wish I had known about them! They might well have bumped one of these other Ollies right on down the list!
