Saturday Night at the Movies 1/31/15!

Who cares what picture we see?

I hope in my heart that Tiffany Bolling does, so I'm very pleased to make this tonight's choice...

I read about this movie in Leonard Maltin's TV Movies book way back in the day - he hated it and gave it a BOMB - but I was intrigued by his description of the movie. For the first - and to date, only - time, the new film experience "Anamorphic Duovision" was used to present a movie with two images going on at the same time. Sometimes you see the same scene from two angles - sometimes two different scenes going on concurrently - and sometimes flashbacks along with a current scene. Here's some pictures to illustrate, since they didn't show anything in the trailer:

I finally saw the movie on TCM - as the extremely widescreen presentation prevented the film having any second life on TV or home video back in the day with the old square screen TVs. I enjoyed the movie - and was very happy when it was added to the Warner Archive "Made on Demand" program. I just had one made up and sent to me for the video vault, and we could be checking out both sides of this movie - any time - even tonight, if you want to make the trip to come see me!

Maniacal Movie Poster Monday #200!

Wow! Two hundred entries in this weekly department! Six hundred movie posters (actually probably a few less as I'm sure there have been at least a few repeats). And although this says it posted Monday - I'm actually getting it up and running later in the week - as I finally solved the "can't upload picture" problem I'd been having for a couple of weeks.

So let's celebrate this milestone post with a theme week - 1 movie, 3 posters!

Pajama Party  (American International Pictures, 1964)

I like all of these posters - I like that Tommy Kirk is shirtless on the first - I like that he's trying to escape Annette in the second, considering his later lifestyle revelation - and the third becomes my favorite simply for having Eric Von Zipper pictured.

Saturday Night at the Movies 1/24/15!

Who cares what picture we see?

Martine Beswick most certainly would, so we will choose this one for tonight...

The fourth James Bond movie - and the first produced after the wild success of Goldfinger the previous year. Broccoli and Saltzman threw serious money into the production this time - and this truly is one of the biggest 007 movies.

Of course I love it and will watch it any time - and it resides in the video vault in the Bond 50 Blu-Ray set ready to spin - even tonight, if you care to come check it out with me!

Maniacal Movie Poster Monday #199!

As this post was delayed by my Blogger issues and now likely won't be much visited - I'm skipping the words to get on to the newer posts I need to get finished.

It's good to be back! Until next post, you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

Saturday Night at the Movies 1/17/15!

Who cares what picture we see?

Jay Richardson would - in his own way. So, let's make this the choice for this evening...

(By the way - this trailer is R rated - and is NSFW - so view at your own risk)

I first saw this on VHS way back when - and enjoyed the silly horror humor of it. It's got a great genre movie cast, plenty of nudity and violence - and a rockin' music score - what more could you ask of a movie?

I just added the limited edition autographed Blu-Ray to the video vault - and look forward to seeing this again in hi def - and you can join me if you like this very evening to watch it with me!

Celebrity Endorsement: Ari Lehman!

I somehow missed posting a Celebrity Endorsement in the month of January, so I'm adding one now - but since it will be buried in past posts - I'm going with a rerun - so here's our once and forever First Jason himself:

Thanks Mr. Lehman!

Maniacal Movie Poster Monday #198!

The Playmates  (Phantasy Films, 1973)

I don't feature much X rated stuff around the blog - but this is an awesome poster and I'm just boggling at the thought of 3-D porn...

The Bride and the Beast  (Allied Artists Pictures, 1958)

I saw this on the late show as a kid - but back then I didn't know who screenwriter Edward D. Wood Jr. was - now that I do I want to see this again!

The Invisible Woman  (Universal Studios, 1940)
When it was time for another Invisible movie - Universal swapped genders and tone - from the male and horror drama to the female and comedy. It's a nice change of pace for the unofficial series and well worth a watch.

Saturday Night at the Movies 1/10/15!

Who cares what picture we see?

I don't believe Clyde Ventura would have - but we're picking this one nonetheless...

I first saw this backwoods flick on Showtime when I was just a lad - it was pretty racy and violent. I hadn't seen it for decades - apparently co-writer/co-director Ferd Sebastian is born again and kept his R rated movies on the shelf.  I finally managed to get ahold of a DVD-R ripped from a VHS - and while the movie is a little more tame than I remembered - it's still a solid Hicksploitaiton movie with some rough and nasty moments.

We could be getting all swampy with it anytime - even tonight - if you want to come by and watch it with me!

Maniacal Movie Poster Monday #197!

The Jungle  (Lippert Pictures, 1952)

I haven't seen this - but I'm sure it's a goofy and fun backlot jungle flick with plenty of stock footage - and I absolutely love that they brag that the movie was "Filmed in SEPIA in the mystic heart of India." That just means they ran their low budget black and white movie through an optical filter to tint it brown. Not exactly a production value where I come from.

Three Bad Sisters  (Bel-Air Productions, 1956)

I also haven't seen this juicy potboiler with three sisters fighting over the family fortune after Daddy dies in a plane crash - but it sounds like one I'd enjoy - for the 50's babes alone!

The Devil's Bride  (aka The Devil Rides Out)  (Hammer Film Productions, 1968)

I have seen this one - and it's a fine Hammer horror pitting Christopher Lee against Charles Gray - meaning you have two Bond villains battling it out! Awesome! And it got the Devil's Bride title here in America because the American film executives thought The Devil Rides Out sounded too much like a Western!

Saturday Night at the Movies 1/3/15!

Who cares what picture we see?

Lynn Lowry would - for sure. So let's make this the first pick for 2015...

Five years after Night of the Living Dead - George A. Romero fully returned to the horror genre for this thriller. Something is causing the residents of a small town to go mad and kill. The army moves in, and everyone has a bad day.

It's not as good as Night of the Living Dead - but it's still a solid low budget flick and well worth checking out. They also did a remake in 2010, I believe - and it's okay. The original resides in the video vault on a Blu-Ray disc - and we could be getting crazy with it anytime - even this very evening - if you wanted to brave the dangers of the crazies in the dark and come see it with me!
