Saturday Night at the Movies 1/31/15!

Who cares what picture we see?

I hope in my heart that Tiffany Bolling does, so I'm very pleased to make this tonight's choice...

I read about this movie in Leonard Maltin's TV Movies book way back in the day - he hated it and gave it a BOMB - but I was intrigued by his description of the movie. For the first - and to date, only - time, the new film experience "Anamorphic Duovision" was used to present a movie with two images going on at the same time. Sometimes you see the same scene from two angles - sometimes two different scenes going on concurrently - and sometimes flashbacks along with a current scene. Here's some pictures to illustrate, since they didn't show anything in the trailer:

I finally saw the movie on TCM - as the extremely widescreen presentation prevented the film having any second life on TV or home video back in the day with the old square screen TVs. I enjoyed the movie - and was very happy when it was added to the Warner Archive "Made on Demand" program. I just had one made up and sent to me for the video vault, and we could be checking out both sides of this movie - any time - even tonight, if you want to make the trip to come see me!

Until next post, you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

  1. Great post, Craig! I've never heard of this, but I can see why. As you said, it would have been impossible for pan-and-scan, so it would have easily slipped through the cracks. A fantastic poster, though, really lurid and eye catching. I've been a fan of Bolling in everything I've seen her in, so I'll definitely have to check this out. Maybe I'll catch it on TCM, if they even show the same films over here...

    1. Thanks John! Yeah, I've definitely got a jones for gimmick movies - and I think this one works pretty well. If I see it's airing on TCM over here I'll give you a heads up - the timeframe for TCM's genre offerings is the wee hours Saturday night into Sunday over here - they generally play two such movies between 2am and 5 am local time.
