Adrienne King!

As Alice Hardy in Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) |
As Louise Strack in Walking Distance (2011) - now called Psychic Experiment (2011) |
Adrienne King as herself today |
And here's why:
This past weekend I participated in the "2011 Friday the 13th Coast to Coast Toast," an event created by Ms. King - famous as "Final Girl" Alice in the original Friday the 13th from 1980 - and her Crystal Lake wines. The previous week, on the last day to order with guaranteed delivery before Friday, May 13th 2011, I mentioned the Coast to Coast Toast to my wondrous wife Suz, who promptly urged me to call and order the wine. I did, as we drove back from a vacation seeing family in Illinois, and I was thrilled when the order was taken by Ms. King herself!
The wine arrived on Wednesday, May 11th. I started planning a photo Suz and I would take to commemorate the toast. I knew it was going to involve my television, as I thought with a little prep I could have Alice from the movie joining us for the raising of the glasses.
After work on Friday the 13th, I rushed home, got the photo set up, popped the cork on one of the two signed bottles of wine we ordered, and moments later, the pic was one for the history books. Here it is:
I did a freeze frame from the first movie - choosing a shot of the lady herself as Alice from her most blissful moment in the movie - she's survived the horrors of the night before, and the police are on shore to take her away from the nightmares she lived through. But at the moment of freeze see above she is literally one frame away from the final moment of utter, ultimate horror. Across the bottom of the television are all eight Friday the 13th movies produced by Paramount Pictures 1980-1988. (Others were made later by, er, others...)
My wife has the bottle of "Survivor's Syrah," signed to me with a jaunty "Happy Friday the 13th!" by Ms. King, and we are raising our skull cups in celebration of more than 30 years of entertainment as Alice looks on from her comfy canoe.
Here are the two bottles of wine - check out the nifty painting of Alice in the canoe on the label:

"To Craig, then he's still there!" |
Yes. Seriously.
You just got a wine review in a blog called Let's Get Out of Here!
Who'da thunk?
Well, the original finale of the tale comes after the picture is posted to the Crystal Lake wines email address. It seems that unbeknownst to us, there was a contest for Best Pic and for Best Video being conducted by a panel headed by Miss King herself!
AND WE WON BEST PIC!!!!
Here is how it was posted online:
Crystal Lake Wines by Adrienne King
Congratulations to the winners of the 1st Coast-to-Coast posts! We have a winner in both the video and picture categories!
The Best Video Award goes to Sean and Molly! and the Best Pic Award goes to Craig & Susan!
Adrienne will personally contact you soon to congratulate you and to find out what you would like from her assortment of F13 goodies!
Thanks to everyone for participating, it was so much fun!
I couldn't believe it! We're actually on the website - crystallakewines.com! By the way, that's also the place to go if you'd like to order some of the wine for yourself - and no shilling here - it really is a marvelous bottle of the fruit of the vine!
So now I'm awaiting a call from Adrienne King when she returns from a convention appearance - where she will congratulate me and Suz for our pic and apparently offer us a choice from an interesting array of Ft13 prizes!
Can't wait!
And I will update here with more once the call comes through!
Exciting, isn't it?
And til that update, you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!
Congratulations!!! This rocks. Adrienne King has to be one of the coolest people ever. I lov ethe pic of you drinking Survivor's Syrah. What a great name, too.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Could she have picked a cooler couple? Nope.
ReplyDeleteExcellent job on the photo, by the way. It is both cheerful, and a touch morbid, with ya'll drinking from skull cups and all.
I'm very curious about the prize selection--and what you'll choose.
Looking forward the next installment!
Craig ~ you do the little town of McLeansboro proud! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteMelissa - thanks for hanging in for the answer! Your Ft13 memories were spiffy too! You've actually inspired me - I'm going to have to do a whole retrospective on the series and my interactions seeing them! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJoe - Glad to see you back, brother! Hope the words have been flowing just the way you've wanted, and thanks for the kind words! See you at the update!
Michelle - Thank you very much! I'm sure my antics would still have some of the residents of Mactown scratching their heads, but it's nice to have longtime pals like you around! Cheers!
I would love to read that! Friday the 13 was an integral part of my adolescence. I still have a lot of fun watching those movies.
ReplyDeleteSuper-cool, Craig! I don't even like wine but I'm curious to try this one. Maybe if I ever come for a visit...
ReplyDeleteCraig: That is AWESOME! Love the pic of you and your wife and congrats! For some reason, I'm not surprised that you own skull goblets. Here's to a memorable Friday the 13th celebration!
ReplyDeleteMelissa - the Ft13 retrospective will take me some time to put together - but I will get to work on it very soon! Can't wait for you to read it!
ReplyDeleteRE - Yeah, we can crack open a bottle if you come down! Definitely!
Luana - Thank you very much! It was a lot of fun, and all the extra hoopla is pretty amazing!
I'm a little late on this, but congrats Craig! That freeze frame shot is fantastic. Haha, nice touch with the skull cups. If I were selecting the winner, I'd also vote for you and your wife's picture. Great job. Now, I really want me some Crystal Lake wine.
