Maniacal Movie Poster Monday #102!

The Wizard of Mars (American General Pictures, 1965)

I've seen this goofy sci-fi variant on the classic from 1939 - of course I'm speaking of Gone with the Wind.

No, kidding! Of course I actually refer to The Wizard of Oz. If you're only going to see one of them, don't make it this one. But if you have time for both this one is silly fun.

Maximum Overdrive (De Laurentiis Entertainment Group, 1986)

I like this movie - but it's completely indefensible. Still, it's the only movie thus far directed by Stephen King - and it was shot right here in my hometown - what's not to love?

Hell's Island  (Paramount, 1955)

I know nothing about this flick - but I'd watch it, given the chance!

Until next post, you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

  1. You know I miss the character of old movie posters Craig. Even if the movie is bad, its' still fun. What the heck is "Ultra-Depth?"

    1. Who the heck knows - but if it put even one more tush in a theater seat - it did its job! I miss the character of the old posters too - now they seem like soulless Photoshop progeny - without any human interference at all!

  2. High Fives fellow Maximum fan. I completely adore that movie and it was the culmination of my crush on Emilio Estevez, my fave of Martin's boys. ;) And starring Yeardley Smith, my own Lisa Simpson. She really is under-appreciated.

Stephen King did an awesome cameo on Sons of Anarchy. He played a cleaner who disposed o bodies while blasting hair metal. But I might have said something about that here before. Ah well...I'm running on two hours of sleep.

    1. Yeah - it's exactly what Stephen King set out to make it - and unfortunately you and I are two of the few who appreciate it.

I started SoA with the Mrs - not her cup of tea - another series I will have to watch during my limited "me only" times...

  3. Wizard of Mars? LOL Never heard of that :) Same for hell's Island.

Been a long time since I last seen Maximum Overdrive, but I remember that I really hated it. I love the short story, but the movie was dull and flawed as fuck.

    1. Yeah, like I said - it's completely indefensible - but I still like that goofy old truck movie. Hey - what about the TV movie remake - Trucks - did you see that?
