Maniacal Movie Poster Monday #233!

Theme Week!

3 Posters!
1 Movie!

Blood of the Vampire  (Universal-International, 1958)

Here's a rip off of Hammer's Horror of Dracula made by Universal the same year. They got Donald Wolfit to star, since he's all British like Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. They made Wolfit up to look like Bela Lugosi too - as can best be seen in the last poster, which is the British Quad.

My favorite is the American one sheet in the middle - just for really drawing the comparison - "He begins where DRACULA left off!"

Until next poster, you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

  1. I can completely see the Lugosi resemblance and hadn't even heard of this film until now.
I'll see if I can get my hands on it.

The middle one's my favourite, too :)

  2. This is a pretty good little movie. It came out years ago on DVD from Dark Sky and plus its got Barbara Shelley -who's always worth a look. I remember stills of the hunchback with the crooked eye turned up all the time in Famous Monsters. You guys are right, the American poster is the best.

    1. Yeah that hunchback - Victor Maddern - was featured a lot in Famous Monsters - it's a big and somewhat over the top makeup - but it was impressive as a child. Two more votes for the middle poster - yay!

  3. I like the middle poster best as well. I'm a sucker for sepia, and the open grave image is very cool!
