These are fantastic, Craig. Sadly we didn't get this kinda thing over here (I guess the local stations didn't have the budgets, we just got a VO and an image, usually) but it's a great way to get an audience hyped. I miss the days of 'event tv', when everyone only had a few channels and we'd all be discussing the film the next day in the school yard!
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly the reason I love to feature these promo clips - it just isn't a part of our world anymore - and truth to tell - even edited for television and mashed into a square image - I kind of miss it.
DeleteAbsolutely, it's why I still love the feel of sitting down to a videotape, even knowing it's pan-and-scanned and probably not going to look very good. Nostalgia really does play a huge part in our lives!
DeleteIt does - and I do love sliding a VHS into my combo Blu-Ray/VHS player - which always gets a great reaction when I speak of it - "You mean DVD/VHS?" But you know what I'm most nostalgic for now? The shared experience of movies airing on broadcast television, especially the local "Chiller Theater" movie shows where the experience was being shared (unknowingly, admittedly) by several thousand people in a relatively small circle around the broadcast tower.
