Saturday Night at the Movies 6/14/14!

Who cares what picture we see?

Logan Ramsey might, if you played your cards right - in the meantime, here's tonight's choice...

This was one I had to see back in the day - because it was a genuine monster movie - with coverage in every horror movie mag and previews all over TV and radio - and right up there is the preview - which is sheer genius in my opinion. Don't care about the actors, don't care about the story, don't care who made it - this movie is chock full of special effects makeup transformation scenes - and they challenge you to be able to sit through it. Now THAT'S how you sell a monster movie! And they got my tush into a theater seat let me tell you!

But you know what - we do care about those other things too - and it's a corker cast - with those names on the poster plus guys like RG Armstrong, LQ Jones, and Logan Ramsey popping up; there's a fun story with its own mythology courtesy screenwriter Tom Holland (Fright Night, Child's Play); and it's directed by the always crazy Philippe Mora (The Howling III).

I haven't seen it in decades - but it just joined the video vault on a swell new Blu-Ray - and we could be challenging ourselves with that horrifying final thirty minutes - plus the hour that proceeds it - anytime! Even tonight, if you don't mind the cicadas out at night...

Until next post, you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

  1. Excellent choice it has been a few years since I watched this last myself, but yes, it does get nicely gruesome and gloopy in that final half an hour. The transformation was great, and a messy one, too. I have the MGM DVD, and although I see the Blu Ray is getting released over here, I think I'll hold off for now, seeing as I already have it. Definitely a shocker worth revisiting.

    1. Wow! You just reminded me that I also have that MGM DVD in the video vault - it's paired with something else like Track of the Moon Beast! I'll be damned! Well, it's not the first time I've inadvertently double dipped - and it probably won't be the last!
