A-Z Challenge 2014: S is for Shock Waves!

1977

The same year he'd done Star Wars - Peter Cushing came to Florida to film this cool little low key horror flick. He plays a psycho Nazi scientist (redundant, I know) hiding out on an uncharted island off the coast of Florida since WWII ended thirty years ago. Then boat captain John Carradine's engines conk out - and he and his passengers end up on the island with Cushing - and his experiments - aquatic Nazi zombie troopers. Let the mayhem begin.

Oh yes...there will be blood.

Until next post, you Can Poke Me With An Aquatic Nazi Zombie Trooper, Cause I Am Outta Here!

  1. Didn't do quite as well at the box office as "Star Wars", did it?

    1. Well now - are we talking a straight up dollar for dollar comparison - or the more fair budget vs ticket sales comparison? Because in the latter case, this movie's far smaller budget might have stacked up against Star Wars's $10 million plus pretty well.

  2. I've somehow managed to not see this one, despite loving nearly every other trashy zombie film I've seen from the era. I really need to rectify that.

    1. That is awesome news! I just found out to, Alvin, that not only was Fred Olen Ray a production assistant on this movie - but Scalps co-writer T.L. Lankford was too! Yowsers! Hope this one looks as good as I think it might on Blu-Ray!

    2. The current DVD has an excellent commentary with Fred, director Ken Wiederhorn and make-up supervisor Alan Ormsby. If you never seen it you should check Wiederhorn's super schlocky & insanely stupid ANIMAL HOUSE ripoff KING FRAT.
