Saturday Night at the Movies 12/7/13!

Who cares what picture we see?

Frank Collison might not, actually, but we'll pick this one anyway - and this one has a couple of salty language moments - NSFW...

One of the cool movies to come flying out of the early days of Full Moon - when they were releasing a movie every MONTH.

I think I may have commented here at one time about the period when I was getting Full Moon screener tapes because I'd led them to believe I was a buyer for the small video store chain I worked for.

Well, when they sent Dollman as a screener there was a little something...unusual...about it. I watched the movie and enjoyed the low budget thrills - but man the special effects were AWFUL. Months later, with the screener packed away somewhere I convinced some friends to rent a copy and watch it to see the horrible special effects.

SURPRISE!

The effects in the rental tape were fine! Low budget, certainly, but they looked pretty danged good! Turns out - the Dollman screener was sent out on such a short turnaround that they had to go with unfinished and what appeared to be test special effects shots! There was no explanation of this on the screener box or anything - and it seems pretty wild to think the company would send out the movie in a pretty unappealing way when that screener is supposed to be convincing you to load up on copies for your video store!

Having seen Dollman in its intended and completed form I found it a tasty little low budget comic book flick. I still have that screener tape somewhere - I wonder if it's worth anything for the curiosity value alone?

I own this one on DVD now - and we could be checking it out in its more complete form any time - even tonight - if you wanted to come by!

Until next post you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

  2. How did that end up? Full Moon Believing you were a buyer for a video store?

    1. Well, my manager was the company owner's sister. We got scads of screeners in at our store. She would take the big movies - the Hollywood A pictures - and we peons got what was left. Well, that was fine with me - because I only cared about the B movies and horror and sci fi flicks anyway. However, after taking a couple of the Full Moon screeners home - one of my nasty co-workers decided SHE needed to take them instead. Now, mind you - this middle aged woman had NO interest in watching Full Moon movies - she just liked the idea of wiping that smile off my face by taking them. So, one day I simply called Full Moon and after identifying myself as the buyer for our little 10 store chain, I simply asked if they could change the address they sent the screeners to as my office had moved. I gave them my home address and for the next year or so I got every Full Moon release as a screener. It was glorious, and it wiped the nasty smile off that she-bitch at work, too!

  4. "Thirteen inches... with an attitude" could easily be the tagline for a very different kind of movie.

    1. I'm thinking they were fully aware of that - and you know - this was not long after those taglines for Charles Band movies were being written by Greg Kinnear of all people!
