Maniacal Movie Poster Monday #20!

Let's get down to it!

Conquest  (United Film Distribution Company, 1984)

So, let me get this straight - if we watch this movie we get a hero so special he doesn't get to show his face on the poster, and he battles a topless mashup of the Marvel comics villainesses Madame Masque & Princess Python and Bathroom Tile Man and his Grout Ray Eyebeams? And the hero wields the Spermchucks of Doom?

I'm soooo there!

The Mole People  (Universal International, 1956)

Never one of my faves as a kid, as the movie was more an adventure/romance flick with the monsters sorta tacked on and as a kid I wanted monsters! Especially cool ones like these!

Escape  (Brinson-Richards Entertainment, 1990)

Okay, this is a goodie for several reasons:

1. It was filmed in my wife's hometown.

2. It stars Kim Richards - Disney kid actress in the day, now a Real Housewife and Paris Hilton's aunt.

3. It features Kyle Richards - Kim's sister, also a Real Housewife I believe.

4. It also has in its cast Kin Shriner (TV's General Hospital for about 176 years); Judson Scott (Khan's main henchman in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and star of the short lived but incredibly beloved ABC series The Phoenix); Jerry Rushing (moonshiner on whose exploits The Dukes of Hazzard was loosely based); and Lash LaRue (whip wielding cowboy star of B movies in the 40's). It was also the last film appearance for Kim Milford, star of Laserblast, Corvette Summer, and the first American Rocky Horror on stage with the Roxy cast. Sadly he died after heart surgery in 1988, two years before Escape...er, escaped, onto home video in 1990.

5. And as you may have guessed if you read all that - neither person on that poster up there is in the movie, nor is the gun, for that matter. It was a heady time in the late 80's/early 90's in the video game - buy up a couple-years-old independently shot movie and have no promo materials like pics of the cast? No problem, fake it with models on an empty set with some smoke. Nice!

By the way, I do own a copy of this on VHS, and because the trailer is nowhere to be found online to post as a Saturday Night at the Movies entry, I'll go on and say here - drop by anytime to check this one out with me! Be warned - despite everything you've read, the movie is deadly dull. DEADLY. DULL. And I can dig it up and have it in the VHS/Blu-Ray combo player (yes, I did say VHS and Blu-Ray combo!) in about two minutes.

And til next post, you Can Poke Me With A Fork, Cause I Am Outta Here!

  1. I haven't seen any of these movies but the poster art is fabulous. I especially like The Mole People. Very cool.

  2. Like Luana, I haven't caught any of these movies. "deadly dull" has me steering clear of Escape. Perhaps, that title is prophetic. But the posters for Conquest and The Mole People are stellar entries for your Maniacal Movie Poster line-up.
